Commercial Marine Underwriter
St. Petersburg, FL - Remote Option Available

Do you love working together on a small team? Are you considering a long-term career in commercial marine insurance in Underwriting?

LIG is looking for an organized, diligent full time Underwriter for Wet Marine. You'll describe yourself as motivated, bright, persistent, and helpful. You will be expected to place Commercial Marine Insurance with our various Carriers, including under our underwriting authorities. Your primary responsibilities will be to coordinate with agents and carriers to establish risk eligibility, coverage and pricing.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in understanding Marine Exposures and Risks, and someone who will work well with Carriers to find the right coverages for the insured. You must have excellent time management, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills. You should have a passion for commercial marine insurance and a drive to build New and Renewal Business.

What You’ll Do

  • Review, Manage and Prioritize Submissions
  • Work closely with Agents to complete and compile necessary information
  • Manage quotes and explain them to Agents
  • Prioritize workload of New/Renewal Business
  • Educate Agents on Marine Exposures
  • Submit Risks to Carriers and work with Carriers to find coverage for insured
  • Work with Carriers to find coverage for the insured

Key indicators of success in this role are thorough communication and follow up, commitment to continual improvement, proven teamwork, a drive for growing your Book, and an awareness of when and how to ask for help when you need it.

You should be able to review submissions and work with agents immediately, manage submissions and quotes after three months, and independently place coverage of insured with Carriers after four months.

Skills You'll Have

  • REQUIRED: 2 years’ experience as a Specialist Commercial Wet Marine Underwriter for a Carrier, MGA or Broker
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret submissions and assess risk
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with Agents and keep following up until all necessary information is obtained
  • Understanding Marine Risks and capability to match the appropriate carriers with the insured
  • Courteous, ethical business manner and strong relationship skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and individually with minimal supervision
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, organize and prioritize independently
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to take on additional tasks as needed
  • Ability to set up and facilitate a Video Meeting
  • Excellent verbal (including telephone) and written communication skills
  • A College Degree preferred; High School Diploma required

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Do

  • Review and Prepare New and Renewal files, including applications and MODs
  • Work closely with the Underwriters and Manager to complete and compile necessary account information
  • Prepare quotes, prepare and send binding documents to Agents
  • Service Bound Accounts – tasks include but are not limited to process AOR/BOR/NOC, endorsements, loss control, cancellations, audits, and internal accounting documents

You should be able to accurately and independently maintain paper files on accounts after one month, and prepare quotes, endorsements, and binders after three months.
